In the musty, stripped-down, nearly empty family basement in Westbrook, Maine, Susan Poulin and her sister, Jane, were spending a few hours cleaning, sorting, and tossing items ruined by recent flooding. Nearing the end of the dirty work, they were set to tackle two final boxes.
